Jai hs just introduced a new 2CCD camera range with the AD-080CL model. The AD-080CL is a 2CCD multi-spectral camera that simultaneously captures both colour and near-Infra Red (NIR) images in one camera housing and through a single lens. This is a unique concept of simultaneous capture of RGB color and Near-IR images with pixel correlation between the two images. It uses a multi-faceted prism in the optical path with band-pass filters on each spectral axis to give users the ability to directly compare images pixel to pixel with different spectra. This unique camera opens up a very wide range of capabilities. The AD-080CL is an XGA 1/3" progressive scan sensor capable of 30 frames per second at full resolution (1024 x 767 pixels). Higher frame rates are possible with Partial Scan or Vertical Binning modes. Several trigger modes are also available allowing random capture of individual images. It features two Camera Link outputs operating at 24-bit colour and 10-bit monochrome that produce separate and synchronised images. The Colour CCD and B/W CCD are attached to the Beam Splitter. The colour CCD is fitted with a Bayer Mosaic filter that produces high fidelity RGB colour images. The B/W sensor is fitted with a Near IR filter (700nm to 900nm) and so images only in the near infrared. The image below demonstrates the technique:
The Near IR filter used with the B/W sensor passes only Near IR light. The svchematic below shows the spectra of normal visible light and the Near IR band passed in this camera. Jai's unique AD-080CL opens up the possibility for new applications or for optimising existing applications. For example it is able to view surface properties in the color channel while simultaneously viewing just below the surface in the near-IR channel. A typical application for this capability is the inspection of fruit and vegetables where bruising under the surface cannot be detected with visible light but is clearly viewed in the image from the NIR sensor while simultaneously measuring the colour of the fruit. The ability to excatly correlate pixels in both colour and NIR images is impossible to do with two separate cameras. Other applications include the inspection of thin screeen printed plastic packaging while simultaneously inspecting the contents of the packaging. There are applications in textile defect detection, aerial mapping, print quality inspection and many others. Example applications:
